How Family Matters Started
Welcome! If you are here, you are committed to taking care of yourself and those you love.
Most people think about living well but they don’t want to think about death. I contend that dying well is almost as important. As you know, anything that lives, dies.
My personal story drove me to build Family Matters. When my father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer, there was very little time left. We watched him as he died over the course of two weeks. We wanted to help but didn’t know how. It was challenging for my father-in-law to plan for his end of life care while going through his illness.
We created short quizzes that help you think through what you want for your advance health directive, comfort care, celebration of life, love letters, and so on. We email you your responses; you can print them out or you can forward them to someone you trust. Or, you can save them just for you. Going through the process of thinking about these topics is the most important thing you can do today.
No one likes to talk about death - which makes it all the more critical and impactful. You don't have to be an older adult to fill it out. If you do this for yourself you can help your parents fill it out, too.
With gratitude,
